Don’t miss the below Paper Selection Tips & Ideal Photo Tips!

Paper Selection Tips

There are thousands of paper types in the market, leaving customers with no ideas on which exact one should be chosen. Choosing a proper paper type can aesthetically upgrade the photobook but a wrong choice can definitely backfire!

Art paper

Art paper is coated paper, meaning a thin film is attached on the paper fiber, so that ink can be retained on the surface of the paper to preserve colour and avoid colour difference.

Art paper can be divided into Gloss Art Paper and Matt Art Paper
  • Gloss Art Paper
Lighter film on the surface can make object’s colours more sharp and distinct; however, due to the higher reflectivity, it is less common for multi-text publication and usually for multi-image publication such as fashion magazines.
  • Matt Art Paper
As the surface’s film is dull and relatively not visually stimulating, it can naturally reflect object’s colours and be more applicable to multi-text publications such as recipes.

Woodfree paper

Woodfree paper is an uncoated paper, meaning ink can be printed directly on the fiber surface for absorption which reduce colour sharpness; easy to bring out senses of gentleness and vintage. At the same time, Woodfree paper has direct contact with the paper fiber with texture thereby enriched. Mostly used for affective publications, such as photography yearbook or fiction.

Photo paper

Photo paper with a thick coat on surface specially for photography is to ensure the colour of the photos can be preserved to maximum, and at the same time, the coating can strengthen the stereoscopic effect to better highlight the objects of photos. Most of them are slightly waterproof. Applicable to all photobooks.

Texture paper

Grain such as the ruled, stripes and patterned is formed by further processing of paper during production. A majority of them are uncoated, giving grain a great flexibility to grow to display its unique texture; matched with soft colour can give a sense of comfort.
Restricted by grain pattern, partial Texture papers are not suitable for any post value-added effects e.g. foil-stamping.

Metallic paper

A wide range of metallic paper, such as with glitter or pearl powder is available in the market. Different materials or ingredients can make a difference to the paper. Metallic paper, as uncoated paper, allows immersion of colours into paper fiber, which results in a unique style of publication.

Ideal Photo Tips

Enhance the value of your photobook by concerning the photo size and integration.

  • Size
    • Photobooks or other publications within 4"x6"
      - Photos taken by general digital cameras and smartphones are applicable
      - Resolution: 300dpi or above
    • 8"x8" / 8"X11" / 11"x8" / A4 / A5
      - Minimum photo size: 1M (normal camera)
      - Resolution: 300dpi or above
    • 12"x12" / A3 / Half A3 or above
      - Minimum photo size: 3M (professional camera or special settings)
      - Resolution: 600dpi or above

Failing to meet the above standard would probably lead to under quality of publication.
